The greatest asset of any organisation is its people. A company may provide an innovative product or excellent services, but it is the people who are the living, beating heart of the company and who are the key to its success.

If we define the employees as the heart of the company, then perhaps we can refer to Human Resources as the lungs: by recruiting, training, motivating and evaluating the best possible individuals, they breathe life into the organisation. Companies all over the world and in every business sector need excellence in Human Resources in order to be the very best that they can be. As Lawrence Bossidy, Former Chief Executive Officer at Honeywell International once said, “I am convinced that nothing we do is more
important than hiring and developing people.

At the end of the day you bet on people, not on strategies.” Multinationals and SMEs are united in the need to have the right people to drive their organisations in the right direction. In this edition of Le Mag we focus on Human Resources in the UK and in particular on recruitment.

Once upon a time, finding a job was something people did at the start of their careers. Changes in attitude, economic variants and increased mobility mean that modern companies need to recruit at all levels of the organisation, including internationally. To quote Bill Gates, “The key for us, number one, has always been hiring very smart people.” We’ve been talking to experts in business and in the recruitment sector, and looking at some of the interesting trends that are emerging.
